How to make Beef and Cheese Lasagna?

For the meat sauce:
  1. 1 pound Italian sausage
  2. 1 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  3. 8 oz mushrooms, chopped
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. 1/2 freshly ground black pepper
  6. 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  7. 6 cups marinara sauce
  8. 1/2 cup water
For the cheese filling:
  1. 2 egg, beaten
  2. 2 lbs ricotta cheese
  3. 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cubed
  4. 2/3 cup freshly grated Reggiano-Parmigiano
  5. 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  6. 1 teaspoon salt
  7. 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  8. big pinch of cayenne
  9. The rest:
  10. 1 lb lasagna noodles
  11. 8 oz mozzarella cheese, torn in small pieces
  12. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese to top


Note: depending on the seasoning of your sausage, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of an Italian dried herb blend.

Take the beef and Italian sausage in a pan. on medium flame break it into small pieces.

Add chopped mushroom, salt pepper, and chilli flakes. cook till beef is brown.

Add marinara sauce and mix it.

Simmer it for 2 hours. Add water as needed.

To make cheese filling, take beaten egg in a bowl, add cheese.

Next, add Reggiano-Parmigiano.

Add mozzarella cheese, salt, pepper, fresh parsley, cayenne and mix it.

Boil lasagna noodles in salted water. then remove it in cold water.

Finally, assemble it, make a meat sauce layer on a baking tray.

Put a layer of noodles.

Spread half of the cheese filling.

Make a second layer of meat sauce.

Then the second layer of noodles.

Spread the remaining cheese filling.

Put the third layer of meat sauce.

Last layer of noodles.

Then the last layer of meat sauce, sprinkle some mozzarella cheese on top and some grated Parmesan cheese.

Cover it with foil and bake for 30 minutes. then bake again for 30 minutes uncovered.

It is cooked well. let it cool for some time.

Serve hot.
