Everyone is a fan of pie. No matter whether its parties or some get together the very common dessert that finds its place irrespective of any festive occasion is pie. Fun doubles when we actually make them and then serve them in the parties with our own blend of flavours and taste. So don’t rely on bakeries when you can easily make better homemade apple pie and serve them in just few steps. All you need to is spare a few time and observe the detailed steps carefully and in no time there will be an apple pie recipe ready just to be served to your friends and family. So here are the steps to make apple pie at home:

ingredients:

Pie Crust:

  1. 350g (2 1/2 cups) all-purpose flour
  2. 226g (1 cup/2 stick) unsalted butter, chilled, and cut into cubes
  3. 1 tsp salt
  4. 6-8 tbsp of cold water

Apple Filling:

  1. 6 large apples or 8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and cut into chunks
  2. 50g (1/4 cup) granulated white sugar
  3. 50g (1/4 cup) light brown sugar
  4. 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  5. 1/4 tsp salt
  6. 1 tbsp lemon juice
  7. 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  8. 2 tbsp cornstarch /cornflour
  9. Egg wash Castor or fine sugar sprinkle (optional)

Garnish:

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (whichever you desire)

Recipe for Apple Filling: 

Remove apple skin, cored and cut them into chunks of half an inch.

In a large bowl combine the sliced apples with brown sugar.

White sugar.

lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and salt. mix it well.

Let sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes or 1 hour. This is to collect about ½ cup of apple juices.

This is also so that the crust will turn soggy when we bake with the juices.

After 1 hour, place the apples and their juices in a strainer that is placed over a large bowl.

Collect as many juices as you can by letting the apples drain for about 10-15 minutes.

Transfer the juices into a pot and then add the butter.

Simmer the juices for about 3-4 minutes or until it is thickened or caramelized. Let it rest and cool.

Add cornstarch in the apple cubes and mix it well.

Recipe for pie crust:

Take plain flour in a mixer jar and add unsalted butter.

Blend until you get coarse crumbs like this.

Then add salt and cold water and again blend it until it starts to come together.

Take it out on a plain surface and pat it into a round shape.

Then divide the dough into two parts and cover it with a plastic bag then keep it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

After the dough has been chilled, take one half from the fridge. Let it rest in room temp for about 5-10 minutes or until it is softened. Transfer it onto a floured surface. then roll it.

And transfer it in a glass pan.

Make holes with the help of folk.

Then repeat the rolling procedure for second dough and cut it into strips of half-inch width.

 

Then transfer the apples on the pie base.

And add caramelized apple sauce.

Then put on the strips like this.

Then seal the edges with the dough.

Add gently apply egg wash.

Sprinkle sugar which is optional then Bake it in a preheated oven at 200°C / 390°F for 50-60 minutes.

And our apple pie is ready.

Serve with a scope of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
